Saflax Bonsai - Common Myrtle

This bonsai produces dark green leaves with a pleasant fragrance and equally fragrant, small, white flowers that appear from May to August. Older trees also bear edible, black-blue berries.

• In ancient Greece, the evergreen myrtle was dedicated to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. The branches of this tree are a symbol of vitality, fertility, lasting marital happiness, and enduring love.

Our Tips:

• Pre-soak the seeds in water at room temperature for 24 hours before sowing to increase the germination rate.
• Cover the seeds only lightly with soil
• Cover the cultivation containers with film and provide them with holes so that the soil does not dry out
• Remove the film every two to three days for two hours to prevent mould formation
• Keep the potting soil moist but not wet
• Ideal germination temperature: 20 to 25°C
• Loves an airy spot in the sun - avoid proximity to heaters
• Can also spend the summer in the garden or on the balcony
• Water regularly with soft (low-lime) water - avoid waterlogging (including in the saucer) - and spray
• Application of liquid bonsai fertiliser is recommended from new growth until flowering
• Pruning is possible without problems during the growth phase - for a lush bloom, do not prune after May
• Shaping in all classic forms is possible from the third year onwards
• Repotting of young plants is recommended annually, and older plants every four years
• Water sparingly in winter and do not fertilise
• Overwinter in a bright place at a temperature between 5 and 14°C and spray the leaves frequently
