HEISSNER - Pond Underlay

For biotopes, garden ponds & compact fish ponds

A pond underlay serves as a reliable protective barrier for the pond liner, safeguarding it against damage caused by sharp stones, root penetration, or uneven ground. As a fundamental component in pond construction, HEISSNER pond underlay enhances the resilience and longevity of koi ponds, biotopes, and traditional garden ponds. This highly tear-resistant geotextile is engineered for permanent subterranean installation and is perfectly suited for use with both PVC and EPDM pond liners.

Selecting your pond underlay
The right choice for your pond depends on the pond dimensions, soil conditions, and the selected material thickness:

  • 200 g/m² with 1.0 mm thickness: Ideal for compact garden ponds on smooth, sandy substrates.
  • 200 g/m² with 3.0 mm thickness: Recommended for stony terrain, large-scale installations, or koi ponds.

Choosing the correct material thickness safeguards the pond liner against mechanical damage and ensures a stable, durable foundation for your aquatic project.

What is the expected service life of pond underlay?
This protective geotextile has been specifically engineered for permanent subterranean use:

  • It is resistant to rot, water, and frost.
  • When installed correctly, it remains functional for 10 to 20 years, or often considerably longer.

By carefully preparing the substrate and removing any major irregularities, you can further optimise the protective performance and the overall durability of the material.
