HEISSNER UV-C Pond Clarifiers
Clear pond water for biotopes & garden ponds thanks to effective UV-C technology
UV-C pond clarifiers are the ultimate guarantee for long-term clarity and crystal-clear water in your pond. By utilising short-wave UV radiation, suspended algae are effectively neutralised, and harmful bacteria and pathogens are significantly reduced. This prevents the dreaded "green water" algae bloom and fosters a healthy biological equilibrium for all pond life.
HEISSNER UV-C systems integrate seamlessly into your existing pump and filter circuit. They are the perfect addition to ornamental ponds, fish ponds, and high-end koi systems, as they optimise water quality through purely physical means - entirely without the use of chemicals.

Discover nowThe operating principle of a UV-C pond clarifier
The core component of a UV-C clarifier is a bulb that emits ultraviolet radiation. As pond water flows past the bulb, the radiation disrupts the DNA of suspended algae, bacteria, and pathogens. The neutralised algae cells clump together (flocculate), allowing them to be easily trapped by the downstream pond filter. Please note: While a UV-C clarifier is an invaluable addition, it does not replace the mechanical filtration work of a dedicated filter system.
When is a UV-C clarifier necessary?
- For ponds prone to turbid, green water.
- In fish and koi ponds with high nutrient loads.
- In locations exposed to intense, direct sunlight.
- To support the biological equilibrium in newly established ponds.
Selecting the appropriate wattage depends largely on the water volume, stocking density, and daily duration of sun exposure.
Service life and maintenance of the UV-C bulb
Even if the bulb still appears to illuminate, its effective UV-C output diminishes significantly over time.
- A replacement is recommended after approximately 6,000 to 8,000 operating hours.
- For optimal results, the bulb should be renewed at the start of every new season.
- The surrounding quartz sleeve should be cleaned regularly to remove limescale and debris, ensuring the rays can penetrate the water unimpeded.
By replacing the bulb annually, you guarantee a consistently high disinfection and clarification rate.
Optimal operating period
A UV-C pond clarifier is a seasonal component:
- The primary period of use is from the first days of spring until late autumn (approx. March to October).
- During this phase, rising water temperatures increase the risk of algae blooms.
Over the winter months, the unit should be dismantled, cleaned, and stored in a frost-free location to prevent damage to the housing or the sensitive quartz sleeve caused by freezing temperatures.
